"Pale Walls"

Pale are the walls
That have surrounded me
And all childish things are gone
No more pictures
No more memories
Remain here
But only the pale walls
And the corners of these walls
Have grown an edge
A bitter thorn in my world
Because haven't I walked these walls long enough?
Haven't I erased these walls to rewrite again?
How long must I stare at these walls
and dream of the world outside
that I wish to feel?
Pale are the walls around me
But I can see where I clawed them
I see the impression
That I have left
As I walk these walls again
And when I too have faded
from pale to mist
will the writing on the walls
become black?
